Miss California Pageant in Fresno This Weekend

Hundreds of visitors are expected in downtown Fresno this weekend for the Miss California Pageant.
56 women from around the state are rehearsing this week at Fresno’s Saroyan Theater — all vying for the title of Miss California.
There is a new twist this year that expands the number of contestants taking part in the competition because for the first time, they will share the stage with 35 teens competing for California’s Outstanding Teen.
Bob Arnhym, Miss California CEO said, “…on Friday night we’ll crown our teen and on Saturday night we’ll crown our miss.”
The winner of the Miss California competition will go on to the Miss America Pageant in January.

Huge Marijuana Grow Discovered in Merced County

A weekend pot bust netted over $9 million worth of marijuana plants.
Police raided a location on Saturday in the area of Stevinson, West of Merced.
They found more than 9,000 marijuana plants growing near the San Joaquin River.
Officers in a helicopter spotted at least three people running from the area. They were living in a makeshift camp at the site.
Investigators believe the garden may be tied to an organized crime syndicate out of Mexico.

Body Found on the Kings River

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a possible drowning on the Kings River after a man’s body was discovered.
The body was found in the area of Belmont and Trimmer Springs when a mosquito abatement employee saw it floating in a small cove along the Kings River.
The victim appears to have been in the water for several days.
The body was turned over to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office to be identified and to determine the cause of death.

51 year old Shelley Levy was being sought as a “person of interest” since a 4-alarm fire destroyed 28 apartment units in Fresno last week. On Saturday night, she was found. But now she faces charges in connection with destructive blaze.
