It all began in a living room in 1986. Responding to a community need for the presentation of fine music and for classical music education, Allan Pollack, artistic director and conductor of the Mendocino Music Festival, his wife Susan Waterfall, along with Mendocino resident and world-renowned bassoonist Walter Green, initiated a series of meetings with fellow musicians and music lovers.

We regret to learn that on Thursday of this week, the cook house, ox stable, horse barn, 150,000 feet of choice pine lumber, and about a quarter of a mile of the railroad all situated a little below and near the upper Salmon Creek saw mill were destroyed by fire.
